MEET SHERIFF FRED BROWN
Keeping Hunterdon County Safe
Sheriff Frederick W. Brown is a lifelong resident of Hunterdon County. After graduating from Hunterdon Central Regional High School, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for seven years. Upon completing his training for the U.S. Naval Reserves, Fred returned home to Hunterdon County with the intention to serve his community. Fred began his career as a Patrolman with the Raritan Township Police Department. Here he served for thirty-one years, working his way up through the ranks to Chief of Police. Fred and his wife Pamela live in Alexandria Township where they raised their four sons, all of whom followed in Fred's footsteps of service as Police Officers.
Fred's community service did not end with the workday or with his work as a police officer. He has been actively involved with many municipal and non-profit organizations throughout his career. Fred spent years on the Raritan Township Planning Board and as the Emergency Management Coordinator for Raritan Township. Fred was a member and past President of the Flemington Rotary Club, a member and past President of the Hunterdon County Association of Chiefs of Police, a life member and a past President of PBA Local 273 and a member of the New Jersey State Chiefs Association. Currently, he is a member of the Sheriffs Association of New Jersey, the National Sheriffs’ Association, and the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey. Fred serves as Chairman of the Youth Services Commission and is a member of the Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative, Hunterdon County Drug Free Task Force and the One Voice Coalition. In past years he served on the Board of Directors for Hunterdon Drug Awareness, and Prevention Resources. He is a life member of the N.R.A.
In his first political endeavor he was elected Hunterdon County Sheriff in 2010. Fred continues to “do more with less” and to have the Sheriff’s Office be known for helping other agencies and the public regardless of their political affiliation. His door is always open and his phone is always on.
